I bought this hob to use while our AGA was turned down in the summer. I found it so useful that I still have it next to the AGA using it as an extra cooking plate. Very useful over Christmas! One advantage of the hob is that it can be made very hot so is good for stir fries. It brings water to the boil very quickly. Luckily I found that most of my saucepans work on it (test by seeing if a magnet will stick to the base of the pan; if it does, the pan will work on the hob). My only quibble is that the hob is still rather hot on its lowest setting so achieving a very slow simmer is not possible.

I find this product a real boon in the kitchen. Quick, easy to use and economical. Perfect for a small kitchen. Wish I had bought one sooner.

Bought this to use for three months whilst our new kitchen extension was being built. Had looked into alternatives - camping gas stoves and normal portable electric hobs - but wasn't keen on either of them and decided this would be the best option. Didn't have very high expectations, but have been very impressed and we are delighted with our choice. We have it sitting on a wooden table top in our temporary kitchen. It looks smart and neat and is really easy to keep clean. Based on previous reviews, I haven't used the auto functions, just the manual ones. This hob is very responsive. Heats up really fast (faster than our old gas hob) and cools down immediately as you click down through the numbers. Has a rolling simmer on the lowest setting. Our pans work on the induction hob, even our wok, but if you have ones that don't, it might be pricey having to replace them. This is our first experience of an induction hob and based on this, we have decided to have an induction hob in our new kitchen instead of gas. I'm a convert!

Looking at the other reviews I think I must have been unlucky with my Tefal portable induction hob.
In stew mode it never heated the contents of the pan to more than 65C in over an hour and a half - it is meant to heat slowly and then maintain the heat at between 80 and 100C. Luckily I was testing it out reheating some vegetable soup - so nothing that was going to make us ill by not being cooked. The contents of the pan never even reached a bubble let alone cooking.
Then I tried the manual settings for cooking potatoes. They came to the boil with impressive speed and I started to think maybe I could live without 'stew' mode. Then I turned them down to the lowest setting and watched them still nearly boil over unless I took the lid off the pan. Another fail.
Finally I tried the old reliable - boiling eggs. Again on manual 3 they came to the boil rapidly. I couldn't leave them on that setting though as water was spitting out all over the place. So I turned them to M2 and watched them boil, then go off the boil, then boil, go off the boil.
I'm assuming that the thermostat is faulty in the one that I have now sent back - but I'm not prepared to take a chance on another one. I'll stick with gas.

We bought this to tide us over after our ceramic hob (25 years old!) decided its largest ring was going to pack up.
The unit sits on the broken part of our old cooker and is an absolute amazement - it accommodates everything from a wok to a massive stock pot. It's instantly controllable, and I've never before managed to get a wok this hot, and quickly too.
What was bought as a cheap solution to a broken cooker ring is now in daily use in preference to the ceramic hob.
The timer makes poached eggs a doddle, and if anything ever does spill over, the hob is always cooler than the pan, so things don't burn on.
I didn't believe something so inexpensive would be so amazing, and I'm really really pleased with it.
